Clean Tips--How to Clean Chandelier

Crystal chandeliers usually have exquisite and complex shapes and lampshades, but regardless of the type of lighting fixture, they are prone to dust accumulation over time. If not maintained properly, they may even rust and peel off paint. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the maintenance of chandeliers in order to extend their service life. Let's learn how to clean a crystal chandelier.

1. Pre-dismantling

Preparation tools: The tools we need to prepare include gloves, ladder, clean water, soft bristled brush, or crystal lamp specific cleaner.
Dismantling crystal bead string:

1) Before dismantling, we need to cut off the power supply of the lamp to prevent electric shock;

2) Place a towel or drop cloth on floor to prevent the crystal bead string from falling and being damaged during disassembly;

3) Before removing the crystal ball, remember the position of the crystal. Take a photo as a record, otherwise, the complex crystal light will drive you crazy if you forget;

4) Wear gloves to avoid fingerprints.

2. Cleaning techniques

Wiping Crystal Beads: When wiping the beads, be sure to have a soft cloth dipped in water diluted with detergent, gently wiping both the front and back of the crystal beads at the same time. When wiping, do not pinch the beads and pull them downwards to avoid tearing the bead string
Wiping bracket accessories: When wiping the bracket and accessories, the soft cloth should not be soaked with water, especially alcohol, to avoid damaging the protective film outside the electroplating layer and affecting the surface gloss effect of the lamp bracket.
Timely replacement of accessories: If the connecting buckle of the bead is found to be rusted or discolored, or a missing bead string is found, it is best to replace it in a timely manner.

3. Installation

After cleaning the crystal bead string, be sure to dry it with a dry cloth or air dry before hanging it. The crystal ball that hasn't dried completely will be like a "vacuum cleaner".
When installing the crystal ball, be sure to wear lint free cloth gloves, which can effectively prevent fingerprints and sweat stains from being printed on the crystal and lamp holder. Especially, the lamp holder of the crystal lamp has been mirror treated to reflect the brilliance of the crystal, and the printed fingerprints will be very clear and difficult to erase.

4. Precautions

When wiping the lamp holder, cut off the power supply. When screwing in the light bulb, it should be done moderately and wiped clean before installation as too loose can cause poor contact, being too tight may damage the light bulb.
If all the bead strings need to be removed for cleaning, crystal lamps should pay attention to the balance of the lamp body when removing the bead strings. Do not tilt the lamp body by removing one side before the other, which may cause deformation of the lamp body or outer frame.
Cleaning should not be done with corrosive liquids such as dishwashing detergent to avoid damaging the outer coating of the electroplating.
Do not use sharp tools for cleaning to avoid scratching.

How to Choose Bedroom Light

The primary functions of a bedroom are rest and sleep. So, what wattage of bedroom lighting is appropriate?

The wattage of bedroom lights ranges from 10 to 100W, and the specific wattage depends on the size of the bedroom and the type of bulb. Taking LED lights as an example:

for a bedroom with an area of 54-108ft²(5-10m²), choose a bulb with a wattage of 13-25W;
for a bedroom with an area of 108-161ft²(10-15m²), choose a bulb with a wattage of 25-38W;
for a bedroom with an area between 161-215ft²(15-20m²), choose a bulb with a wattage of 38-50W;
for a bedroom with an area greater than 215ft²(20m²), choose a bulb with a wattage greater than 50W.

Before purchasing lighting, you can consider the following activities you will engage in based on your personal habits to select the appropriate lighting: reading books/using mobile phones/iPads before sleep, habits of getting up in midnight, finding/storing clothing, dressing up, etc.

Based on the above scenarios, bedroom lighting is mainly divided into the following three categories: basic lighting, bedside lighting, and localized lighting.

1. Basic Lighting

Bedroom basic lighting is used to illuminate the entire room and is highly important. There are two options: no master lamp lighting and master lamp lighting, which involve installing a main lamp, light strips, or downlights. Depending on style, room height, preferences, and other factors, the main lamp can be further divided into pendant lamps and ceiling-mounted lamps.

For bedrooms ≤108ft²(10m²), it is recommended to use one large lamp in combination with other smaller lamps. When purchasing lighting, you can inquire with the seller about the lighting area of the main lamp to ensure sufficient brightness.

For bedrooms ≥108ft²(10m²), a single main lamp may not meet the demand, and installing multiple main lamps simultaneously would be odd. Instead, consider no master lamp lighting, using light belt, downlight, spotlight, ceiling light. Of course, an excellent scheme without master lamp will usually be matched with chandelier, floor lamp, desk lamp, etc.

2. Bedside Lighting

Bedside lighting is generally classified into two types based on functional needs:

To fulfill the need for reading in bed, you can choose wall lamps, floor lamps, or desk lamps.

To create a sleeping atmosphere, you can choose warm light sources, like bedside light strips, bedside lamp.

3. Localized Lighting

Localized lighting refers to areas in the bedroom besides the sleeping area, including a study and leisure area, wardrobe storage area, and floor area, etc.

Study Area Lighting: Desk lamps, Study desk lamps, and Eye-care lamps. The desk lamp should be placed on the left front of the desk to avoid glare and protect vision. Additionally, adjust the lampshade to an appropriate position so that our eyes are approximately 16inch(40cm) away from the desk lamp and about 24inch(60cm) horizontally from the light source.
